Hardware requirements
The Edge Runtime is one static binary with no database server and no runtime dependencies, so it runs on small machines. What it needs grows with the IO tags a design processes, the outputs it publishes to, and the history and buffers it keeps on disk.

- RAM is for the whole machine: the runtime itself uses 55–80 MB; the rest is the operating system and headroom. Windows needs more than Linux for the same work because the OS does.
- Storage covers the binary (33 MB), the installed console and logs, the Store & forward buffer (50 MB by default, up to what the design sets), and a SQL history when the design writes one locally. A Raspberry Pi should use a quality A2 card or a USB SSD when a local history is kept.
- CPU figures are per design at 1-second polling; a slower poll rate or fewer outputs needs less. ARM64 (Pi 4, Pi 5) is fully supported; 32-bit Raspberry Pi OS is not.
- Above 500 IO tags, or with many gateways, talk to us; the runtime is designed for far more, but we publish only what we have measured.
Supported platforms
Windows
Windows 10, Windows 11 and Windows Server 2019 or later, x64. Installed as a Windows service by the Edge Gateway Console; the console needs an administrator terminal once, at install.
Linux
Debian 11+, Ubuntu 20.04+, RHEL 8+ and compatible, x64 and ARM64, with systemd. A .deb for Debian-family systems; the runtime is installed as a systemd service.
Raspberry Pi OS
Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit (Bookworm or later) on Pi 3B+, Pi 4 and Pi 5, through the Linux ARM64 .deb. The runtime is one 33 MB binary with no dependencies to install.
Design it, then size the machine
The design page validates a project and tells you how many devices, tags and destinations it has; this page tells you what to run it on.
