PLC to cloud
The requirement is usually stated as "get the PLC data into the cloud". The part that matters is that the PLC stays where it is, on the plant network, and nothing from outside connects to it.
Typical use case
A production line reports counts, states and rates to a cloud dashboard. IT will not allow inbound connections to the control network, and the automation team will not allow a cloud agent on the PLC.
Deployable today for PLCs reachable over Modbus TCP or RTU. Other PLC protocols can be configured in the editor but are not yet carried by the Edge Runtime.
Configuration approach
The runtime lives on the plant side
It makes the connection to the PLC locally and the connection to the cloud outbound. No inbound firewall rule is needed.
Send only what is needed
Select tags, apply a deadband, and publish on change rather than streaming every poll.
Survive the link
Store & Forward buffers to disk while the connection is down and replays in order when it returns.
Keep running regardless
The runtime does not depend on Modbus Logic Cloud to operate. A cloud outage does not stop the gateway.
